Halifax police say a 27-year-old man wanted on a second-degree murder charge has turned himself in.

Tyreece Alexander Whynder-Ewing was the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant and surrendered to police in Toronto on Thursday.

Police said today in a news release Whynder-Ewing is in custody in Ontario and will appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date.

Whynder-Ewing faces a murder charge in connection with the death of Alexander Thomas, of East Preston, N.S.

Thomas was about to face trial for the sexual assault and forcible confinement of a Halifax woman, but the trial was officially ended on Tuesday because of his death. His body was discovered by police last Saturday at a residence on Braeside Court in Dartmouth, N.S.

Police have not released details on Thomas's death or commented on whether there are any links between the alleged murder and the sexual assault case.
