Nova Scotia police watchdog says RCMP member faces obstruction charge

HALIFAX — Nova Scotia’s police oversight agency says a member of the Halifax RCMP is facing an obstruction charge.
The Serious Incident Response Team says it was contacted by the RCMP on May 16 after the federal police force received a complaint about a member who had obstructed a peace officer in the execution of their duties.
The incident is alleged to have occurred on May 14, and the oversight agency says an investigation has led to a charge of obstruction against Const. Kwame Amoateng.
Amoateng is to appear in Pictou, N.S., provincial court on Oct. 3.
Halifax RCMP say the incident occurred in the area of Kemptown, N.S., about 125 kilometres north of Halifax.
RCMP Insp. Jeremie Landry says Amoateng, who is a more than nine-year veteran of the force, has been placed on administrative duties, adding that an internal code of conduct investigation is underway.
