Nova Scotia reports 60th COVID-19 related death in the province Saturday

HALIFAX — Nova Scotia is reporting one more COVID-19 related death, bringing the provincial total to 60.

The death occurred at the Northwood long-term care home in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Premier Stephen McNeil says his thoughts are with those who are mourning at this time.

As public health restrictions are loosened over the next week, McNeil says he is asking all Nova Scotians to continue to respect the rules and follow public health advice.

Nova Scotia has 1,056 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 978 considered recovered.

Northwood is the only licensed long-term care home in the province with active cases of COVID-19. Ten residents and four staff have active cases.

Meanwhile, Public Health is advising of potential exposure to the virus at the RONA store on Almon Street in Halifax on May 23, 25 and 28.

Health officials are directly contacting anyone known to be a close contact of the person or persons confirmed to have COVID-19.

While most people have been contacted, there could be some contacts that Public Health is not aware of.

In a statement, issued Saturday, they say it is anticipated that anyone exposed to the virus on the named dates at this location may develop symptoms up to 14 days from the last date they were at this location. This would be up to, and including, June 11, 2020.

They say people should self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
