Nova Scotia reports one new death, 57 new COVID-19 cases since Friday

HALIFAX — Nova Scotia is reporting one new death related to COVID-19, and 57 new cases of the virus since its last update on Friday.

Officials say a man in his 70s in the province’s western zone has died, bringing the total number of deaths to 99 since the onset of the pandemic.

Twenty-nine new cases have been identified in the Halifax area, along with 17 in the province’s northern zone, 10 in the western zone and one in the eastern zone.

The province currently has 152 active infections with 11 people in hospital, including two in intensive care.

Meanwhile, testing continues at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, N.S., where five patients in a non-COVID unit have tested positive for the virus and one person is in intensive care.

According to provincial data, 83 per cent of the province’s population has had at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine while 77.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.
