RCMP divers to search inside truck that rolled off Nova Scotia ferry

By Canadian Press

WESTPORT, N.S. — Nova Scotia RCMP are investigating a bizarre case involving a truck that drove onto a ferry at Westport on Monday night, then rolled off the other end and plunged into the water.

RCMP in nearby Digby say a woman who was pulled from the water told ferry employees a man was still inside the vehicle.

Staff at the ferry terminal on Brier Island called for help shortly after 9:30 p.m.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax dispatched a Cormorant search-and-rescue helicopter and the Canadian Coast Guard to the scene.

However, the Mounties say those who responded were unable to determine whether there was anyone in the submerged truck, as the weather was poor at the time.

An RCMP dive team was expected to search inside the truck as early as Tuesday.
