A man is facing multiple charges after a truck was stolen in Yarmouth County while two men were leaning up against it.

Yarmouth Rural RCMP say a young man jumped into the driver's seat, started the vehicle, then drove away Wednesday afternoon.

One of the men was hit by the truck's mirror as it took off, but he didn't need to be taken to hospital.

A woman saw the theft and got into another vehicle to follow the stolen truck. She found it on the side of a road.

Police say the driver lost control and was still inside. They say the suspect threatened to shoot her if she didn't leave.

A school in the area was put on a hold and secure while officers and a police dog tracked down a suspect, who was arrested without incident.

Austin Blake Rhyno, 23, of Wedgeport, has been charged with:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Uttering threats
  • Assault with a weapon

He scheduled to appear in court today and Mounties say their investigation is ongoing.
