16 vehicles broken into in Bedford area early Friday morning

By Meghan Groff

Halifax Regional Police are investigating after 16 vehicles were broken into early Friday morning.

They say some of the break-ins happened along the Bedford Highway near Larry Uteck Blvd., while others occurred in the area of Rutledge St.

In June, HRP received 184 reports of thefts from motor vehicles.

Police recommend doing the following to reduce your risk of becoming a victim:

  • Always lock your vehicle, even when parked in your driveway or garage.
  • Make sure to take your wallet/purse with you when you leave your vehicle.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially in plain view.
  • Don't leave your garage opener in your vehicle.
  • Consider leaving outside lights or motion sensors on during the night.
  • If possible, park in well-lit, well-traveled areas.

Anyone who has had their vehicle broken into, or notices items missing from their car, can report it to police online or by calling 902-490-5016.

If your license plate or government identification is stolen, police say you should report it immediately.
