UPDATE: Highway 103 has reopened.

**************************

If you're out of the city in the direction of the South Shore, a crash has shut down a section Highway 103 late Tuesday morning.

Emergency officials say as of 11 a.m., the highway is closed in both directions between Exit 5A (Ingramport) and Exit 6 (Hubbards).

Officials do not have an estimate on how long the shutdown will last.

RCMP are asking drivers to avoid the area is possible. They also caution, with icy roads, speed should be reduced.

Halifax Regional Police are also asking drivers to be extra cautious, as snow will likely make driving more challenging today.

“Clear snow from the roof, hood, license plate, windows, mirrors, lights, turn signals and cameras of your vehicle,” HRP recommends.

The snow is expected to continue in the Halifax area until late afternoon. Environment Canada's revised forecast is now calling for a total of between five and 10 cm.

Halifax Regional Municipality will be enforcing the winter parking ban overnight into Wednesday.
