A 24-year-old man has been issued a summary offence ticket for violating the one metre rule in a crash that sent a cyclist to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Halifax Regional Police were called to John Brackett Drive in Herring Cove at 6:20 a.m. last Wednesday.

The 54-year-old female cyclist was rushed to hospital and the driver wasn't hurt.

Cst. John MacLeod says the first offence fine for passing a bicycle when there is less than one metre between the vehicle and cyclist is $284.91.
