Two in custody following weapons complaint at Halifax Shopping Centre (update)

UPDATE: Halifax Regional Police say two men are in custody in relation to the weapons investigation at the Halifax Shopping Centre.

“There is no threat to public safety at this time,” police said in a news release at 3:30 p.m. “Police are reopening the area of the Halifax Shopping Center to the public.”

Halifax Regional Police are investigating a weapons complaint near the Halifax Shopping Centre.

Officers are currently on scene and are asking the public to stay away from the mall and surrounding areas to allow them to conduct their investigation.

HRP said the investigation is ongoing, but confirms there have been no reports of injuries or discharge of firearms at or near the mall at this time.

HRCE confirmed to CityNews Halifax that St. Agnes Junior High School, St. Catherine's Elementary School and Westmount Elementary School were in a hold and secure state as a result of the weapons call.

It has since been lifted.
