The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has placed two charges on an RCMP officer from the Pictou Country District, said inspector Matco Sirotic in a news release today.
RCMP say they became aware of the allegation on Feb. 21, 2022 - Pictou County District RCMP say there were reports of on-duty excessive use of force against Cpl. Mark Kellock.
RCMP say they referred the matter to the SiRT, who completed an independent investigation.
On Aug. 31, 2022, SiRT charged Cpl. Kellock with both assault and choking; Cpl. Kellock is scheduled to attend Pictou Provincial Court on Sept. 26, 2022.
“These criminal charges are alarming, and we take these incidents seriously,” said inspector Sirotic in the news release.
“Cpl. Kellock, who’s been an RCMP member for 29 years, is currently on administrative duties. His duty status is under review pending an internal code of conduct investigation and the court process.”
