Eastern Conference-leading Mooseheads prepare for two game home stand this weekend

By Garreth MacDonald

The Mooseheads are rolling.

The Herd are 13-2 in their last 15 games and riding a five-game win streak into this weekend's two game home stand.

During this most recent win streak, Halifax has outscored its opponents 30-5.

In fact, the Mooseheads haven't allowed a goal in 139 minutes and 28 seconds of play thanks to back-to-back shutouts from Alex Gravel and Cole McLaren.

The Herd host the Saint John Sea Dogs, the second-worst team in the league, on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Centre.

Halifax is a perfect 5-0 against Saint John this season.

On Monday, the Mooseheads defeated the Sea Dogs 4-0 as Cole McLaren (14-1-1-0, .935 SV% 1.61 GAA) turned aside 36 shots on goal to pick up his fourth shutout of the season on his 19th birthday.

Dartmouth's Brock McLeod, who came into the game with just two goals on the season, doubled his total with a pair to help pace his team to the 4-0 victory.

In five meetings this season, Halifax has racked up 33 goals against Saint John, surrendering only eight.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Saturday night on NEWS 95.7.

HALIFAX (42-12-2-1, 87 points)  vs SAINT JOHN (12-41-2-2, 28 points), Saturday at 7 p.m. on NEWS 95.7

The Mooseheads have won five in a row while the Sea Dogs have dropped five-straight.

Halifax comes into Saturday's game 59 points ahead of their divisional rivals.

Saturday's match-up is the third of the season at the Scotiabank Centre between the clubs with Halifax dealing Saint John a pair of 10-2 losses during their previous match-ups.

Saint John is a very young team with a plenty of offensive upside and potential. However, they have struggled defensively this season, giving up 299 goals against, the most in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

However, with 11 games left in their season, a playoff berth remains a possibility.

The Sea Dogs enter the weekend just four points back of Shawinigan for the 16th and final playoff berth so they still have plenty to play for.

HALIFAX 42-12-2-1, 87 points) vs BLAINVILLE-BOISBRIAND (19-36-2-0, 40 points), Sunday at 3 p.m. on NEWS 95.7

The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada make their only stop of the 2018-19 QMJHL season at the Scotiabank Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The game will mark the end of a busy three-in-three road trip through the Maritimes for the Armada that includes stops in Bathurst on Friday night and Charlottetown on Saturday.

The team has just two wins since Jan. 15.

Those victories came against Saint John and Bathurst, the two worst teams in the league.

But Blainville always seems to play Halifax tough.

They topped the Mooseheads 3-1 on home ice back on Nov. 29, the only prior meeting between the two clubs this year.

Netminder Emile Samson stood on his head as the Mooseheads outshot the Armada 36-21.

Unfortunately for Blainville, their star netminder was injured earlier in the season and hasn't played a game since Dec. 9.

You can listen to Sunday's game live from the Scotiabank Centre at 3 p.m. on Dartmouth Dodge Mooseheads Hockey on NEWS 95.7.

Don't forget to tune into the Burrito Jax Pre-Game at 3:30 p.m. and stick around after the game for the East Side Mario's Post-Game Show.
