Mooseheads’ Dumais sets sights on World Juniors

By Mark Hodgins

Hockey Canada is expected to announce its selection camp for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship next week, and a Halifax Mooseheads skater is hoping to see his name on that list.

Jordan Dumais, 18, is currently the highest scoing player in all of the CHL with 49 points in just 22 games.

“It's definitely on my radar, I mean it would be really cool to be a part of that team and represent Canada,” Dumais said in an interview with CityNews 957 Mooseheads play-by-play commentator Garreth MacDonald. “I am just trying to do the most I can do be on that team. I can't really control much beyond my play.”

Dumais said it would be particularly cool to play for Team Canada when the tournament is in Halifax, calling the city “basically a home” for him. This is Dumais' third year playing in Halifax.

If his head coach had a say, Dumais would be on the team.

“I think Jordan is fueled by the perception that he's never been good enough, never been fast enough, never been a big-time scorer. I guess he's proving people wrong,” Sylvain Favreau said. “Does he prove Hockey Canada wrong? I don't know, that's out of our control, but I'm certainly hoping it for him.”

Dumais was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NHL entry draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Hockey Canada is expected to announce its selection roster for the 2023 WJC on Dec. 1.
