The Halifax Mooseheads started off their regular season on a high note, defeating the Cape Breton Eagles 5-4 in overtime at Scotiabank Centre.
The Eagles opened up the scoring with Cam Squires early in the first period.
Attilio Biasca answered back with the first Mooseheads' goal of the regular season to make it 1-1 but Luke Patterson quickly restored Cape Breton's lead.
Brady Schultz evened things up for the Herd early in the second period with Jack Martin eventually giving Halifax the lead with his first QMJHL goal.
Cape Breton tied things up shortly after as Zachary Gravel snuck one passed Mathis Rousseau. Gravel later restored the Eagles' lead with his second goal of the evening.
Halifax's Mathieu Cataford tied things near the midway point of the third period, forcing overtime where Markus Vidicek scored the game winner to give the Mooseheads their first win of the regular season.
The Mooseheads will make their way to Bathurst on Wednesday to take on the Titan.
