Phoenix stifle Mooseheads offence, handing Halifax rare regulation loss

By Mark Hodgins

Mathis Rousseau did everything but score for the Mooseheads on Saturday night, as Halifax was shutout on the road.

The teams played two scoreless periods – including a Phoenix goal that was called back because of a high stick. Rousseau was a big reason why, making some huge stops for Halifax against a talented Sherbrooke squad.

Sherbrooke would eventually strike first, with a shot from Cole Huckins beating Rousseau through the five-hole early in the third period.

The Phoenix extended the lead as a point shot from Marc-Andre Gaudet was deflected in front by Joshua Roy to make it 2-0 on Roy's 33rd of the season.

Amherst, N.S. native Jacob Melanson buried his 42nd of the season into an empty net to wrap up the 3-0 win for Sherbrooke.

The loss was just the second in regulation for the Mooseheads since Nov. 27.

Halifax will wrap up its road trip with a matinee in Quebec City on Sunday. The Remparts host the Mooseheads at 4 p.m., and you can catch all the action on CityNews 95.7.
