Large fire brought under control at metal recycling business in Burnside

It took about 45 minutes for crews to bring a fire at a metal recycling business under control on Monday.

Halifax Fire Deputy Chief Dave Meldrum told CityNews firefighters were called to the plant on Simmonds Drive in Burnside at about 1:45 p.m., where they found a large fire in a pile of scrap metal.

“We have some accounts from witnesses of seeing flames as high as 10 to 12 feet,” Meldrum said.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 2:30 p.m.

Meldrum said there were no injuries reported and investigators were already looking into what caused the fire.
