HRM residents are being urged to make a blood donation before this year comes to an end.
Canadian Blood Services is looking for 8600 donations in Atlantic Canada over the holidays, 3500 here in Nova Scotia.
There’s no shortage of blood heading into the holiday season, but donor director Peter MacDonald says the problem they’re facing is fewer days to collect blood because Christmas falls on a Friday this year.
“Which means for us, we will not have blood donor clinics on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Sunday the 27th,”
So we’ll be closed for three consecutive days, it’s rare that that happens, but while we’re closed for three consecutive days, hospitals will remain opened and the need for blood will remain constant.”
Blood of all types is needed, but O negative donors are especially welcome. The Halifax blood donor clinic is open next week including Christmas Eve until 11:30am.
