Police say they suspect foul play in the deaths of a man and woman found in a rural home early Friday morning.
The RCMP’s major crime unit was at the home of a couple on Barr Settlement Road in East Hants County Friday.
Police have identified the couple as Ellen Hall and Russell “Rusty” Hall both were 53-years-old.
Heather Hamilton says the two owned the Nine Mile Variety Store before she bought it from them several years ago.
“Rusty was here, had this place open at 5 o’clock in the morning, to get all those early people coffee and their cigarettes and get them on their way to work,” says Hamilton. “He never missed a morning.”
She says the two were in there late 50s and had just returned from visiting their children out West, seeing their grandchildren for the first time.
Michele Bourgeois says there is never any crime, loud parties or vandalism in the area.
“Very quiet, peaceful,” Bourgeois. “This is the first time I’ve heard of anything happened and I’ve been here 15 years. It’s very shocking.”
Police vehicles had the road blocked off and yellow police tape was stretched across the victims’ driveway.
