Ski or golf? You’ll have your choice this weekend

Few Nova Scotians can remember a winter day in the province where one could choose between golfing or skiiing, but this unseasonably mild weather is providing that opportunity.

The streak of warm weather has prompted golf courses to open much earlier than normal. Grandview in Dartmouth will open Saturday, and assistant manger Lloyd Petrie says its the earliest opening he can recall.

“This is the earliest by about a month,” says Petrie. “So we’ve broken a record this year.”

He says conditions are great considering it’s mid-March.

“Actually it’s really dry,” says Petrie. “We didn’t have all that much snow this winter, so it’s actually quite dry,”

Follow up your 18 holes with a trip to Martock or Wentworth. Andy McLean the manager at Martock says it may be hard to believe, but ski conditions are great.

“No one believes me, but there are hundreds of people here today that would vouch for me on that one,” says McLean.

He says they have some snow piles that are 10 metres deep, and people are out there skiing in shorts and t-shirt.

News 95.7 Meteorologist Richard Zurawski forecasts the mild temperatures will continue at least through the weekend.
