Sydney Mines, gateway to the cosmos?

The Canadian Space Agency is looking for a new place to launch small satellites into orbit and one of places they’re considering is Sydney Mines, Cape Breton.

Sydney Mines has one major competitor for the title of Cape Canaveral North.
The small town of Churchill, Manitoba located near Hudson’s Bay. The Fort Churchill rocket launch site has been in use since the 1950’s.

The Cape Breton location has the support of a Canadian-American consortium with an eye for making it a starting point for space tourists.

A spokesperson for Chicago-based PlanetSpace says the Maritimes are an excellent place to launch rockets.
