Cole Harbour teens charged after fatal MVA

Halifax Regional Police have charged two Cole Harbour teenagers in relation to a fatal car crash that killed another boy.

David Alexander Julien, 15, died when the Honda Civic he was a passenger in hit a pole on Cranberry Crescent in Dartmouth Sunday night. The driver and passenger ran away on foot, but turned themselves in to police around noon on Monday.

Today, police say Matthew Lesley Grimm, 18, faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, two counts of breach of an undertaking and one count of breach of probation.

Thomas Glen Dixon, 18, is charged with breach of an undertaking.

Police say the pair were under orders to have no contact with each other; Grimm was also under orders to have no contact with Julien.

Both are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today.

David’s friend, Allysa Gallop, tells CTV Julien was well-liked.

“He liked rap music, he liked hanging out with his friends, he liked youth group,” she said.

Students at the school were also angry at the two 18-year-olds who were in the car with David, but fled on foot after the crash – leaving him dying in the backseat.

Police believe speed and possibly alcohol were factors in the accident.

Gallop says she and some friends will try to raise money to help David’s family with funeral costs.

“We’re going to do a penny drive, and a bottle drive, and we’re trying to get a barbeque going,” she said.

A Facebook page set up in David’s honour has more than 800 members who remember him as a loyal friend.
