Recreating a Second World War musical moment in this year’s Tattoo

The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo will be adding a hint of history with the recreation of a Second World War segment during this year’s performance. Blanche Lund, 88, will be bringing a touch of that history to this year’s Tattoo when she choreographs a re-enactment of the 1940s marching hit Meet the Navy.
The segment is a tribute to the Royal Canadian Navy on its 100th anniversary and was originally featured in a 1943 show. Lund and her husband Allen were the lead dancers with the Royal Canadian Navy Show for three years during the war, giving whirlwind performances to service men and civilians.
The re-creation will open this year’s Tattoo. Lund tells News 95.7 she’s has a family member in the ranks.
“They could only provide 19 dances. So, I said I have a grandson who’s 15 and he’s been dancing for quite a few years. I’ll ask him if he’ll fill in for me, because I can’t do a marching number with 19 girls. So, I asked him. He said ’19 girls? Sure grandma, I’ll do it,'” Lund laughed.
The show runs from July 1 to 8 at the Halifax Metro Centre.
