Weather forecasters are giving the heads up to everyone that they are expecting a very active hurricane season off the coast of Nova Scotia.
News 95-7 Meteorologist Richard Zurawski says the conditions are good this season for hurricanes which is not good news for the roofs or trees.
Environment Canada is watching the early beginnings of a few systems to our south and a storm could be heading our way in the next two weeks.
“August, September, October are the worst part of the hurricane season for the maritimes,” says Zurawski. He adds “(There’s) no question that we’re going to get another hurricane and it’s going to strike land in Nova Scotia. The question is when.” Zurawski hopes everyone heeds the weather warnings when they come.
He says the waters are starting to get very warm and gulf water temperatures are being recorded in the 30-degree celsius range. And with this year’s hot and humid weather, storms won’t die off as quickly as they would when it’s cold.
Environment Canada is warning that between 18 and 23 storms will brew this hurricane season. “Probably eleven to thirteen will be hurricane status”, says Zurawski. But predicting where they will land “is like throwing a dart at a dart board.”
