Woman’s disappearance now a homicide case

A local missing persons case is now a murder investigation.

Police say the investigation into the disappearance of sex trade worker Nadine Taylor has led them to believe she has met with foul play.

Halifax Police Constable Brian Palmeter says they can’t comment on the status of an ongoing investigation, but would say investigators made a breakthrough today.

“That she was not going to be found alive,” says Palmeter. “So we’ve actually switched the file, and it’s now being investigated as a homicide.”

Sources told the Chronicle Herald that police had questioned Steven Elliott Laffin in relation to Taylor’s disappearance.

Laffin is being held at the Burnside jail while he faces charges in relation to an assault on a prostitute in early August, just a few days after Taylor’s disappearance.

“All we said is that we did have a person in for questioning yesterday in regards to one of our ongoing files,” says Palmeter.

Sources also tell the Herald that Taylor’s footwear was discovered inside Laffin’s home after a lengthy search last month.
