The Halifax Rainmen are a basketball team without a coach.
Les Berry told the team he was pursuing professional opportunities away from the basketball court, and wouldn’t have the time needed to lead the team. He told the team of his decision late Sunday evening.
“It was a great experience to coach in the best basketball city in Canada,” said Berry. “I thank Andre for providing me with the opportunity to be part of a fantastic organization.”
Team owner Andre Levingston says Berry’s tenure as coach ended by mutual consent.
“Les Berry brought our franchise to the playoffs for the first time in our history. He has done a great job coaching our team,” said Levingston. “We wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors”
Berry joined the team in 2009 after the firing of former head coach Rick Lewis and although he didn’t travel with the team on it’s recent two game road trip, he led the Rainmen to a 3-1 record to start the season.
The organization with unveil it’s new head coach during a news conference Wednesday morning. Whoever is named the new coach will make his debut this Saturday at 3 o’clock when the Rainmen host the Saint John Mill Rats.
