Police say a sexual offender is being released back into the population in HRM. Michael Ray O’Brien, 48, is being released from a federal penitentiary, where he has been professionally assessed as a high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner.
O’Brien has a criminal history involving offenses against young children dating back to 1984.
Constable Brian Palmeter says to not become involved with O’Brien if you see him.
“We encourage citizens to contact police if they have any information or if they see this person in violation. We ask that them not to take matters into their own hands or enter into any vigilante justice. We ask that they just contact police,” he says.
As part of his release, O’Brien has been placed under numerous conditions, including having no contact with children under the age of 14.
