Pearl Jam won’t rock Halifax

Pearl Jam has announced a Canadian tour as part of a yearlong celebration of the bands rich twenty-year history but the tour, which includes stops in Hamilton, Saskatoon and Edmonton, won’t be coming any further east than Montreal.

That means Halifax is not one of their stops.

Rock ‘N’ Roll watcher Cole Mclean of atlanticcanadarocks.com tells News 95.7 it continues a trend of bands leaving Atlantic Canadian cities off their list.

“They look at us and they think maybe we’re a small population that’s out of the way for a tour bus and they just want to avoid us for that reason.”

Mclean ads geography specifically could be working against us.

“They just feel that they have to drive to Atlantic Canada, they can’t escape to another city from Nova Scotia,” he says. “It’s not as easy as when your in Florida and can drive to South Carolina. Once you’re in Atlantic Canada you’re kind of trapped.”

He also suggests the other concerts by U2 and Metallica could have played a role, as Pearl Jam might not have wanted to compete with them for ticket sales.

The last time Pearl Jam made to trip to the Maritimes was in 2005 after which they said Halifax was one of their favorite shows.

The tour will kick off in Montreal September 7th and work its way west to Vancouver for the final show on September 25th.
