Two witnesses to testify in Moncton kidnapping trial

The Crown is expected to call two witnesses to the stand today in the sensational kidnapping and sexual assault trail of a Moncton woman before resting its case.

The 55-year-old Moncton woman, whose name is protected by a publication ban, recounted a horrific 26 day ordeal for the jury Wednesday and was cross examined by lawyers for Romeo Jacques Cormier Thursday.

She described in detail how she was taken from a downtown mall to a Sixth Street rooming house where she was held captive until her daring escape on March 24th of last year.

The woman’s daughter said her mother is relieved to be off the witness stand.

“To have been able to get that behind her. I think she’ll feel more releif when this is all done,” said the woman who also cannot be identified.

Defence lawyer Robert Rideout hconfirmed the accused will be taking the witness stand once the defence begins its case.

The Crown still has several witnesses to call, but has indicated it could be wrapping up its case by the end of the week.
