Canucks sign veteran forward Byron Bitz

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks have begun to replenish their forward depth by agreeing to terms on a two-way contract with forward Byron Bitz which will pay him $700,000 at the NHL level.

The 27-year-old missed last season after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia in October and then experiencing problems during his recovery.

Bitz spent four years as part of the Bruins organization after being drafted 107th overall in 2003. His last action was in 2009-2010 with the Florida Panthers when he had a goal and an assist in seven games. He has 18 points in 89 career games split between the two clubs.

The Saskatoon native has some ties to the area, he played with the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL during the 2002-2003 season.
