Africville back on the map

Africville is back. The city has officially renamed Seaview Park to Africville once again.
Mayor Peter Kelly tells News 95.7 this is the first step in trying to make things right for the people of Africville.
“Today, giving back the name of Africville to the community says ‘Welcome home’. It is given back to you,” he says. “It is enabling us to show that acknowledgement.”
Hundreds of Africville natives came out for Friday’s celebration. Among them was Karl Carvery. He’s glad that Africville is a part of Halifax again. But, he thinks there’s still a lot more to be done.
“I want the original Africville back,” he says. “That would satisfy me immensely. Like I say, I feel like I’m owed something.”
The annual Africville Reunion will be held this Natal Day weekend in Africville.
