Plans unveiled for new development that will replace Citadel Hotel

The company that owns the Citadel Hotel has unveiled plans for a brand new building that will replace the current one.

It will be made up of two hotels (commercial and long-stay), an apartment building, commercial and conference spaces along with a restaurant.

SilverBirch Hotels and Resorts President Steve Giblin tells News 95.7 the goal is to have this brand new building open for business by Fall 2013.

“The aggressive timeline that we set is not dependent on any financing,” he says. “This project is fully financed. So with our finance secure, that’s why we feel we can set such an aggressive timeline to get this done.”

SilverBirch is still working on a branding deal, but Giblin says the name Citadel will not be associated with the new development.

“We debated that for a long period of time,” he says. “Obviously the Citadel represented the city very well. But, we feel Citadel Hill is, that’s where the name belongs and it really doesn’t belong on a hotel.”

The Citadel hotel will close on January 17, 2012. Demolition will begin shortly after.

SilverBirch is still waiting for final clearance from the city before it can proceed with the $60-million project.
