VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC Lions quarterback Travis Lulay is one of three Lions players named nominees for the 2011 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards. Lulay is the West nominee for the Most Outstanding Player Award.
In a breakout season, the Lions pivot was ranked second among all quarterbacks in the CFL with 4, 815 yards and his 32 touchdown passes were good enough for a share of the league lead with Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo. Calvillo is the Eastern Division representative for the award for a fourth consecutive year.
Lions kicker Paul McCallum is the West’s nominee for top special teams player. The 41-year old led the CFL with 203 points and broke Lui Passaglia’s record for field goal percentage. McCallum, who also set a CFL record with 30 consecutive field goals will be up for the award against Toronto kick returner Chad Owens.
BC offensive lineman Jovan Olafioye is the West nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman after anchoring a Lions’ offensive line that allowed a league-low 29 sacks this season.
The winners will be announced at the 2011 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards during Grey Cup week on Thursday, November 24th at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
