Winner of $16 million jackpot steps forward

The Atlantic Lottery Corporation says someone has stepped forward to claim the winning lottery ticket sold in Dartmouth.

The Lotto 6/49 ticket is worth nearly $16 million.

Spokesperson Lindsay Shannon tells Metro the ALC received a call Thursday afternoon from the potential winner, but it’s not clear whether the winning ticket has been presented yet.

She says the verification process can take anywhere from a few hours to 30 days.

It’s the third winning ticket to be bought in Nova Scotia this year and the biggest win for Atlantic Canada in 2012.
