Accused committed to stand trial in Amber Kirwan case

The 30-year-old man accused of killing 19-year-old Amber Kirwan in 2011 has been committed to stand trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court.

The decision came Tuesday at the conclusion of a 10-day preliminary hearing in Pictou, N.S., for Christopher Alexander Falconer of Pictou.

He will stand trial before a jury on charges of kidnapping and first degree murder.

Almost 30 witnesses testified at the hearing, but the evidence is banned from publication at this stage.

The trial is not expected to take place until some time in 2014.

The 19-year-old woman disappeared Oct. 9, 2011, after leaving a local pool hall in New Glasgow, and her remains were found in nearby Heathbell about a month later.
