N.S. runners tackle Boston Marathon today

One of the most well-known road races is kicking off this morning.

Over 50 Nova Scotians are running in the Boston Marathon, including 75-year-old Malcolm Pain.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” said Pain. “I’ve been resting up this week and just doing a few miles each day to stay lose. I’m also getting lots of pasta.”

Pain ran Boston for the first time almost 30 years ago.

“It doesn’t even compare to races in the Maritimes,” he said. “Sometimes when you first leave a start line at home you see a crowd of people, but after two or three hours you see very few. In Boston, the whole 26 miles is lined with crowds, it’s just total chaos.”

Pain starts in the third wave today at 11:30 a.m., alongside 9,000 other runners.
