Heightened security at London Marathon as Boston victims honoured

There was heightened security at this year’s London Marathon, and the event went off without interruption.

Runners in the marathon wore black armbands as a show of solidarity with the victims of last week’s deadly Boston Marathon bombings.

Before the race began, organizers paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the terror attacks.

“In a few momenets a whistle will sound and we will join together in silence, to remember our friends and colleagues, for whom a day of joy, turned into a day of silence,” an organized said on loud speaker.

London Police added 40 per cent more police officers and extra surveillance as a precautionary measure.

The main aim of the stepped-up security was to provide the runners and half-a-million people lining the route with safety.
