Indian company H-Energy is planning to build a $3-billion LNG plant and export terminal in Melford, N.S.
Managing director Darshan Hiranandani said Wednesday the facility could be operational by 2020.
The Guysborough County facility would be capable of exporting 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Hiranandani says the venture would be similar in size to the LNG plant and export terminal that Calgary-based Pieridae Energy Ltd. is planning to build at Goldboro, N.S.
The H-Energy director says his company is looking at securing supply from various North American sources, including Nova Scotia
and other parts of Atlantic Canada.
The gas would be shipped by tanker to overseas markets, which could include Latin America, Europe and India.
