Two people killed in Highway 103 crash, two critically injured

Police have identified the second victim of a fatal head-on collision that closed part of Highway 103 Saturday morning.

The RCMP says 87-year-old Luigi Liscio of Toronto died from his injuries Saturday evening at the QEII.

75-year-old Myrtle Veinotte, from Beech Hill in Lunenburg County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers remain in hospital in critical condition.

At 10:45 a.m., RCMP, EHS and Hubbards Fire Department were called to the serious collision eastbound at Exit 6, near Hubbards. RCMP say it appears Veinotte was driving a maroon van, traveling eastbound, when she swerved in to oncoming traffic and hit a large SUV with six occupants heading westbound. Four of the six in the SUV were injured and the RCMP believes they’re all from Toronto, Ontario.

Saturday’s collision saw bumper to bumper congestion for almost five kilometres, forcing the highway to be closed until 7:20 p.m.

The RCMP is still investigating.
