N.S. pastor facing sex-related charges

SYDNEY, N.S. – A 61-year-old former pastor in Cape Breton has been committed to stand trial on three counts of sexual interference.

Robert Stewart Lawther allegedly committed the offences between Jan. 2006 and Dec. 2011.

The complainants are three young females.

On Wednesday, provincial court judge Brian Williston ordered Lawther to trial after presiding over a preliminary hearing last week.

Lawther told the court in Sydney that he will be tried by Supreme Court judge and jury.

After being charged with sex offences, Lawther stepped down as pastor at Bethel Family Church in Glace Bay.
