Cineplex cleared to proceed with Empire theatres purchase

TORONTO- Canada’s biggest movie theatre chain is moving ahead with plans to acquire 24 Empire theatres in Atlantic Canada.

The Cineplex deal has received approval from the Competition Bureau and is expected to close by the end of the month.

The Toronto-based company says it has abandoned plans to buy two theatres in Ontario as part of the original proposal.

The value of the acquisition is estimated at 194 million dollars.
