Maclean’s has released its annual university rankings issue on Thursday.
It’s considered a holy book of post-secondary education for many parents and students. Often controversial, the 130-page issue includes 49 schools and rates what each school has to offer, using charts and stories.
The schools were ranked on 14 indicators.
“We do try to look at a number of areas like success of the student body in winning awards, the faculty winning awards, getting research grants, spending on key areas like libraries and student services, the reputation of the university,” senior editor Mary Dwyer told 680News explained.
There’s been a change at the top of the comprehensive category.
“Victoria has taken first. Simon Fraser had been number one for a few years now in the comprehensive category, but this year Simon Fraser is second,” senior editor Mary Dwyer told 680News.
Ryerson moved up from 12 to 10 in that category.
There was also a change in the medical school category.
McGill hangs on to best medical school while The University of Toronto has slipped from second to third.
In the undergrad category, New Brunswick’s Mount Allison remains in first while Oshawa’s UOIT moved up two spots from 15 to 13.
