The Halifax International Airport Authority says it has signed an agreement with Irving to open a new gas station when the airport Petro-Canada station closes next week.
Irving will install a temporary site on Goudey Drive, just past the Petro-Canada site, which is due to close Sept. 2.
Michael Haley, the airport authority’s vice president of infrastructure and commercial development, says the airport found out about the closure a month ago and immediately started talking to local fuel companies to come up with a fix.
“We are very focused on ensuring that we have the appropriate services for our travelling public,” said Haley, “so we have worked diligently to ensure that we have uninterrupted fueling supply.”
Haley said there will be a permanent solution eventually.
“It’s still in the planning process, and we would hope to be moving forward with something next year,” he said.
The temporary site, due to open Tuesday, will offer three grades of gasoline, a convenience store, and 24-hour service.
