Sem Paul Obed, high-risk offender, released from prison
Halifax Regional Police and RCMP are notifying the public of the release of Sem Paul Obed, 43, a man they say has been deemed “a very high risk to re-offend in a sexual and violent manner.”
“Obed was released from a federal penitentiary earlier this morning after serving a full two-year sentence for assault causing bodily harm and breach of probation,” Const. Pierre Bourdages said in a statement Friday morning, adding Obed indicated he would be living in Halifax.
Obed has been released under a number of conditions, including abstaining from alcohol and staying home between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

He has a long list of prior convictions dating back to 1984, including attempted murder, sexual assaults and assault with a weapon, according to police.
Police describe him as an Innu man, 5’11”, 170 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, a dark mustache and glasses.
The statement is meant to inform the public of Obed’s presence, police say, and any vigilante activity “will not be tolerated.”
