There were some tense moments in Yarmouth County Friday afternoon, when a 3-hectare forest fire threatened a number of homes in the community of Upper Wedgeport.
A few dozen families were alerted about the blaze, though no evacuations were necessary.
Progressive-Conservative MLA for Argyle-Barrington Chris D’Entremont told the Sheldon MacLeod Show the fire started unexpectedly.
“We had a gentleman, I think, that was out working on a blueberry field, and doing some burning for next year. He thought he had it out, and the wind picked up and it kicked off again,” he said.
A Department of Natural Resources spokesman says the fire is now under control, and RCMP, DNR and the local volunteer fire department all responded to the call.
