Nova Scotia auditor general to investigate how school boards spend money

Nova Scotia’s education minister is calling in the auditor general to investigate the province’s school boards.

Karen Casey says auditor general Michael Pickup will examine how the elected boards spend money and are structured.

Casey’s call for an audit is just one of dozens of recommendations she makes in a review of the province’s education system.

Over the years, some of Nova Scotia’s school boards have proven to be so dysfunctional that the government has had to step in and take over.

Casey’s report also says the province’s teachers should be subjected to a new performance appraisal system.
