Nova Scotia to bring in new curriculum in September for youngest students

HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia government says it is changing the curriculum for pupils in Primary to Grade 3 starting in September to help with their literacy and math skills.

Karen Casey, the province’s education and early childhood development minister, says the changes provide students with a foundation in math and literacy that will help them in their school years.

The government has been working with teachers on the new curriculum.

Casey says more than 3,000 teachers told the government last fall that the curriculum should focus on essentials and gives teachers more time to teach core subjects.
