One dead in north end fire

An investigation is underway after a house fire in the north end turned deadly.

Crews were called to the 3610 Barrington Street, north of Duffus, at 12:10 a.m. this morning.

Halifax Fire division commander Lloyd Currie told News 95.7 when they arrived, they quickly located the victim amongst heavy smoke and flames.

“Crews gained entry, immediately pulled the victim from the fire, and turned the victim over in the care of EHS,” said Currie. “EHS transported the patient to the QE2 hospital, where we later learned he was deceased.”

Currie says that person was the only occupant in house at the time.

No details of that person’s identity have been released.

Crews managed to knock down the fire in about 10-minutes and investigators are now on scene trying to determine the cause.
