The concept for a monument honouring Constables David Ross, Fabrice Gevaudan and Doug Larche was unveiled at Moncton city hall yesterday on the one year anniversary of the tragic Moncton shooting, though it’s not clear when the finished memorial will be unveiled.
Moncton city councillor Daniel Bourgeois told the Sheldon MacLeod Show he thinks the decision as to when the actual monument will be unveiled, should be left up to the ones most affected by the tragedy.
“I think that the sensitive thing to do would be to ask the three widows,” he said.
Bourgeois says the monument serves as an important reminder to honour first respondors.
“I think it’s a monument not only to those three individuals, and we should ask their wives if the deadline or any day is particular, but also the first responders, and commemorate it on a regular basis.”
The monument will feature Constables David Ross, Fabrice Gevaudan and Doug Larche in a circle, facing outwards, with their backs to a porch light.
It is expected to be built over the next year.
