New Central Library up for international award

HALIFAX — The new Halifax Central Library is on a short-list to be recognized as “World Building of the Year for 2015”

The new Central Library is a finalist listed under the civics and community buildings category.

The Halifax entry is one of 338 other projects representing 46 countries around the world. The library was designed as a cultural hub — and includes a 300-seat auditorium, two cafes, music studios, gaming stations, a space for adult literacy classes, a reading circle and boardrooms for local entrepreneurs.

The World Building of the Year honour is bestowed but once a year by the World Architecture Festival as an annual acknowledgement of the stellar designs churned out by leading international architects.

The award will be presented later this November in Singapore.
