HALIFAX – A Halifax man accused of first-degree murder in a six-year-old cold case is planning to fight his case all the way through the court system.
Jimmy Melvin Junior was in the courthouse yesterday but didn’t appear as dates were set for his preliminary hearing.
Police are accusing Melvin of fatally shooting Terry Marriott Junior in February 2009.
Both Marriot and Melvin have lengthy criminal records.
Defence lawyer Pat MacEwen says memories fade with the passage of time and his client is maintaining his innocence in the matter.
The accused was returned to custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in the Halifax area.
Melvin is facing up to three separate trials: one to deal with the murder charge; another for the attempted murder and conspiracy charges; and a third for the drug charges.
